2010 was quite an interesting year for CableOrganizer. Despite my missing work until September as I was recovering from a back surgery, a lot of big changes happened in the organization:
First off, we moved to a new warehouse facility (3 times bigger than the former one we leased) that we purchased at the end of May. I also moved in to a new house two weeks prior to our big company move. That wasn’t too fun in terms of timing, especially since I wasn’t supposed to be moving boxes. the move was quite challenging for everyone, but was nonetheless successful as spirits were high and everyone was exited to get more wiggle room.
I got a big corner office (the hottest one, my choosing, my bad), and our carpenter got so excited that he built a desk fit for a newsroom. He felt it had to be grand, so he added a huge chrome logo in the front. It looks really cool I must say. I would gladly let New Products shoot our product videos in there except the lighting conditions are really poor. We were able to clear some space for them in another room however. They are putting their own finishing touches to their new “studio” as I am typing.
We also switched our shopping cart platform as the old one no longer suited our needs. We are still in the process of phasing it out. We also implemented EDI full force in November.
New Products and Web Design teams put out about 550 live new product pages on our site while Marketing was super busy with PPC ad campaigns, slicing and dicing data, revamping the homepage, running MVTs, and adding feeds. Oh, and we added a big screen dashboard on a wall so we monitor what we are in the process of doing. Very impressive looking, along with the Star Wars memorabilia and shrine and candy pooping reindeers and pink, fuzzy, octopus-shaped, tissue dispensers. Whatever floats our boats…
The CSRs got very professional custom built desks in a nice, big open area. We learned from the old space and designed them with ergonomics and sound insulation in mind. It looks very cozy and inviting.
The warehouse team also got custom built workstations with ergonomics in mind and even got a playground slide installed. We started changing the lighting to be eco-friendly. The warehouse was designed to be very efficient and also provision for growth.
As a lot of you already know, we put in occupancy sensors and dimmers all over the warehouse and office space to reduce power consumption and got a bailer in an effort to recycle cardboard and reduce our carbon footprint.
We finished the year in style on a dinner cruise in Fort Lauderdale, decked with casino games and great food.
Last but not least, two CableOrganizer babies were born, a little Zoe and Enzo.
So, these are a few positive things that happened in our little community despite the catastrophies that the world around us endured. 2011 will be about more streamlining, documenting, enhancing website shopping experience, growing our social media efforts and growth of course. May the force be with us and may the new year be kinder on Louisiana, Haiti, Pakistan, the deployed US soldiers and all the people in need.
