In this article I will relate a few things we, at CableOrganizer.com, have done in the last year to go #green. None of the items were excessively expensive and the return on investment was great. We managed to get our monthly utility bill to go from $7500.00 per month down to $1500.00. Here are some ways to go green:
Put Ecobee digital thermostats on your A/C units and program them to higher temperatures on the evenings, weekends and holidays. They can be remotely programmed over the web. We keep the office at 76°F during working hours, then the temperature is kept to about 84°F. That alone saved us thousands of dollars. We also changed out one A/C unit for a high efficiency model. Our plan is to switch the other 8 units in the future as they go bad.
Another way businesses are going green is by adding occupancy sensors throughout their office and warehouse space. We noticed that some lights were often being kept “on” during the night and weekends, either by the cleaning crew or by warehouse employees. We set up some wireless occupancy sensors in each office space or open area, in the restrooms and in each aisle of the warehouse. This has tremendously reduced our #energy consumption.
Last but not least, replace the 500W light bulbs in your warehouse by 60W fixtures. In our case, we replaced about 60 light bulbs. Even though they were turned off at night, they still drew over 50W of electricity each. Talk about vampire electrical devices! Again this change saved us thousands of dollars, not to mention that the warehouse is now cooler with the new fluorescent fixtures.
Now that I have shared a few #eco tips, you can see how businesses are going green
